APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY ONCE A STUDENT HAS LEFT COLLEGE
The College will normally be pleased to support students who decide to apply to university once they have left College although the following points should be borne in mind:
- If a student has recently left Worcester Sixth Form College i.e. in the last two or three years, it probably makes sense for the College to be asked to act as referee and for the College to provide the academic reference. However, if a student left us before this time it could be that our information is a little out of date. In this case it may be better to ask an alternative individual or institution that might be in a better position to provide a reference.
- Students should not approach individual members of staff directly to act as a referee. Instead students should approach their former Senior Tutor :
Ian Birth – imb@wsfc.ac.uk
Rhona Davies – rsd@wsfc.ac.uk
Ruth Scotson – rjs@wsfc.ac.uk
who will consult with other members as staff as appropriate. It is probably best to email the appropriate Senior Tutor; Students are advised to give a mobile or other number so that they can be contacted quickly should the need arise.
- If students want the College to provide a reference they must apply to UCAS through the College; to do this they will need to use the College buzzword, currently wsfcstudent. This is however, subject to change and students may need to contact the College to obtain this. If a student applies as an individual the College cannot access their application and therefore cannot provide a reference as references cannot be sent directly to students.
- In principle the earlier students apply the greater their chance of being accepted on the course of their choice. Applications received by universities after 15th January of the year of application may not be considered. References cannot, however be completed at short notice. If it is necessary to consult other staff it may take some time so students should allow a minimum of five working days before they would like their application to be sent to UCAS. This can be a particular problem as deadlines approach i.e. 15th October or 15th January, when the demand for references from former and current students is particularly high.

My main interests are mathematics, further mathematics, information technology and accounting.
I have always struggled with my writing skills and after a thorough assessment at college I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I received both learning support and extra time in examinations. I found these very useful since the learning support helped me develop my writing skills to improve the quality of my written work and preparation for examinations. The extra time was also useful since I felt more relaxed during the exams because I was not so stressed about running out of time. I plan on doing a maths degree in Manchester to further my studies. I have enjoyed my two years of study at college and have made many new friends.
