Access to Higher Education
After taking 9 years out of my career to raise a family, I decided that now was the time to change career. I wanted a new challenging career in social care but didn’t have the right qualifications to get to university. I left school at 16 so had been out of education for over 20 years and was unclear of what path to take until someone told me about the Access to Higher Education Diploma. I was interviewed for both Worcester Sixth Form College and another local college but ultimately chose to study here due to the high level of professionalism shown by all staff and how small and personable the class size is. The support is fantastic and the personal relationships made here have made the transition back into full time education far less daunting and much easier and pleasurable than I’d ever imagined. As I teenager I never imagined that I would go to university, no one in my family has, but here I am, in my 4th decade with a place at the University of Worcester, about to do a degree in Sociology and Criminology. I’m so glad that I didn’t let my self-doubt get in the way and that I took that leap of faith, age should never get in the way of making that change.
