Yesterday our Debating Society competed against the RGS in a debate about private schools. In a fun twist, the RGS students spoke against private schools whilst WSFC spoke in favour of them.
After a fiercely contested debate, Bethan Lally was announced as our speaker of the day due to her well researched and strongly delivered arguments. The best team was then announced as Ben Smith and Dan Moody (photographed) following Dan’s persuasive series of counterarguments and Ben’s hard-hitting summary speech, giving the College an overall victory.
Reflecting on the event, Ben said “it was a great experience and we look forward to taking part in and hopefully winning future debates.” Much of the credit for the team’s win must go to Chair and Opening Speaker Emily Williams who has been instrumental in building the society since its formation just 15 months ago. Philip Hadley, teacher of Politics, commented that “Emily’s leadership is invaluable and I am incredibly proud of her and the whole team.”
