Academic Success

In summer 2024 the College’s A Level pass rate of 97.4% (grades A*-E) is above the national rate for the twentieth year running. Worcester Sixth Form College students were able to achieve 115 A*s amongst 845 top grades - 48.6% of the overall grades with 71.4% achieving A*-C grades.

Students receiving grades for their Applied courses shared similar success with 38.5% achieving the top grades (Distinction*/Distinction).

In addition to their main subjects, 75 of Worcester Sixth Form College students benefitted from completing an Extended Project qualification with 19 achieving A* grades and 92% getting A*-C. This additional qualification can often make a difference both in terms of being offered and securing places at the most competitive universities and this is something we strongly encourage our students to consider.

In the College’s 40th year of supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes, the first T Level in Education and Early Years was delivered and the results at the end of the first of two years have been outstanding with 100% achieving pass grades - 90% A-C. This exceeds achievement nationally with 10% A grades compared to 8.7% nationally and underlines the strength of teaching and learning at Worcester Sixth Form College. In September 2024, the College will deliver its second T Level qualification in Health having made significant investment in a state-of-the-art clinical skills suite.

Principal, Ed Senior, said: “I am incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students and hope that they enjoy celebrating their success with family and friends. It is particularly pleasing that more students are achieving top grades despite the return to the more demanding grading used in 2019.

As well as being proud of their academic achievements, I am proud of the way in which our students have developed personally during their time with us having taken advantage of our widest ever range of enrichment either through examined courses such as Core Maths, the challenge of the Ambition Programme or participation in sport. Thank you to all my colleagues for the care and support that that have provided and continue to provide to our students. I am sure that the academic success of our students combined with their increased confidence will ensure they are well prepared for their next step whether that is university, an apprenticeship or employment."
