Play of College Alumni to be performed at The Cheltenham Fringe Festival

Mia Stevens

We are delighted to share the news that former student, Mia Stevens, has written a play – ‘Last Night, On Llandudno Pier’ – which will be performed at the Cheltenham Playhouse in May.

Since completing her A Level studies at College in 2019, Mia graduated from Bristol University with a BA in English Literature, and is in the final few months of completing her Master’s. Whilst completing her degree Mia got involved with “Bristol Spotlights” — the university’s writing theatre society – which provided her with the opportunity to write, direct and produce plays in lots of different venues around Bristol. During the summer of her second year, Mia wrote her first full length play, “Sonder, Upon Sea and Shore”, all about a group of seemingly disparate characters connected by their memories of Llandudno Pier in North Wales. Inspired by some of the writers she had encountered on her course — such as T.S Eliot, Hope Mirrlees and Virginia Woolf — Mia hoped to create a fictional “collage” of Llandudno Pier, weaving together fragments of a community’s collective nostalgia.

In November 2022, the first version of the play was performed as a student production and since then, the script has been developed with the play introduced to a new cast in January. The Cheltenham Fringe Festival will be the first fully formed performance of ‘Last Night’ with performances on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st May at 4:15pm at Cheltenham Playhouse. Mia would like to develop the play even more after its performances at Cheltenham, with the hope of working towards setting up a Bristol & Worcestershire-based theatre company. Congratulations Mia, we hope the performances are a great success and look forward to celebrating your future successes.
