Physics students awarded by CERN
Congratulations to a group of year 2 Physics A Level students who entered a competition with CERN, a leading nuclear research organisation, and have been acknowledged for their efforts.
The students chose to investigate how effectively different materials absorb high energy particles and linked to future travel to Mars or deep space where astronauts will be exposed to a high dose of cosmic rays and, as such, will need to be shielded. Impressively they mathematically modelled how the radiation would travel through different thicknesses of different materials, and created a report that was submitted to CERN.
