The second year A level Geologists are back in College after last week’s successful visit to the Isle of Arran where they completed 4 days of Fieldwork.
Whilst in Arran they discovered a fulgurite- fossilised lightning-strike, the footprints of Chirotherium (a crocodile like proto-dinosaur that walked the Earth during the Triassic- about 248 million years ago) and fossilised imprints of plants that grew during the Carboniferous. Students also had the opportunity to map out and test their skills and knowledge interpreting some complex palaeoenvironments in a range of locations on the island.
